It's been nearly a month since the launch of the site, and an exciting one at that. We've received a surprisingly large number of submissions, as well as many additional members to the community. I haven't release an update to the community in quite some time, so here are some things that are in the works at Papertank.

First off, I've replaced the old article formatting tags with a very easy to use and flexible markup language. This new markup is similar to the formatting that some of the more popular sites on the internet use, so the learning curve shouldn't be too difficult for most users. The new language supports text aligns, headers, indents, bullet lists, and a few other options listed in the About Section. If you have any ideas for additional useful formatting options, feel free to give us suggestions.

Along with the new formatting system, I've made some slight adjustments to the user ranking system by increasing the amount of reviews required to acquire a new rank by one (for example, Level 3 requires 11 reviews, Level 4 requires 18, etc.). This will allow for a more balanced system by preventing users vote weight from getting too powerful.

I'm also in development of a system that will allow users to upload and embed images into their articles, which will hopefully be finished by the end of the week.

Nice. I've never really needed very complex formatting, but being able to center text and make bullets will be nice.

Awesome! I remember the old BBCode tag language was a pain in the ass to deal with. Spotting symbols is much easier than spotting tags when you make a mistake in formatting.

Now, if you could only make a converter that will process the formatting of Word and other rich text documents into this language, that would make a lot of our lives a lot easier.

That would be useful... I don't suppose it would be very easy, though.

I suppose it would depend on the documents supported. RTF documents wouldn't be very difficult because the are simple, but when you get into others, such as Word which has a variety of formatting options, then I think it would be difficult.

It's something worth looking into though.
