I noticed, in this form at least, that the question hasn't been posed. I think it'd be interesting to see where everybody's coming from in terms of influences.
I'll start off!
I've read just about every major Stephen King book, and a lot of his novellas. I was into Asimov for a time with the Foundation series, and that led to the Douglas Adams books. Jennifer Government, a book by Max Berry (very unknown modern author) really stuck with me, for its ideas on where capitalism would take us with no checks and balances. I also love The Watchmen and The Sandman series.
There's been a few deviations, but nothing that made a big enough impression on me to be remembered now.
:)

The 2,548 Best Things Anybody Ever Said, 1984, Animal Farm, Tom Sawyer, anything that can keep me amused for an hour.
To be, or not to be....
You get the idea.
And read Just a Puddle, too. (See my profile content)
I'm happy. I'm crazy. I'm friendly. I'm Timmy. So be it.

As a kid I was always reading - Enid Blyton sticks out in my mind. As I teen I read The Hobbit and progressed to Lord of the RIngs. Generally I've read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy after that...Raymond Feist, Terry Goodkind, David Eddings, Stephen King to name but a few...still find Tolkien to be the most rewarding, but other series are more 'fun'!
To be or not to be....that is totally illogical captain.....Spock.

Philip Roth's "Portnoy's Complaint" has been a long-standing favorite of mine. Kind of shaped me a bit in those growing early teenage years..
I also like Kafka's stuff. Really interesting.
Richard Brautigan... As I've mentioned before...

My most favourite are Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series. Next comes the Hyperion and Endymion books by Dan simmons. Dean Koontz and Stephen King are both favoured authors and I'll read pretty well everything by them.

the dark tower series by stephen king. most of his other work is schlock.
every book by daniel silva. he is a newer writer but he is great.
the hyperion series by dan simmons --- he is hands down my favorite author and he wins awards in multiple genres.
the prey series by john sandford. his other books are great too.
anything by carl hiaasen. i just recently started reading his after my wife made me read one, and his characters are hilarious.
the rain series by barry eisler. very kickass!

It's funny to say this, with all the Stephen King movies I've seen, that I've never read a single book of his.
