Is this severely frowned upon, or just lightly with a small hint of contempt?
It's not like a +1 vote will do much for score, but it might help get the voting balls rolling.
Can't blame me for thinking about it o0;

Do you mean, creating another account to vote on it?
Because you can't vote on your own piece on your account.
To do that, though, I'd say would be frowned on. Self-hyping like that is no good.

A big no no.
This is one of the main reasons why guest votes are worth less than user votes.

Here's the whole problem with self-voting. Dishonest or not, it's essentially pointless, in the long run. Everyone who votes on his or her own article will obviously be giving that article a vote of +1, with only three exceptions:
1) People who are too honest to vote on their own articles. (Should honesty be punished?)
2) People who vote badly on their own articles. (Why did they submit them in the first place?)
3) People who create another account in order to vote +2 or more. (Cheating.)
In the end, if we assume that every article starts out with a +1, it only makes it look slightly more popular to begin with, and no more popular at all if no article ever starts out with a zero. Presidential candidates only vote for themselves because they can, not because it means anything.
