I suppose I'm the only one here that only uses the only tools to create stories. I free-flow my work. The article submitted is always in the setup that it came to me. Rarely do I even proof read it even.
If you are one that needs an extra program there are a few that can help. I personally have OpenOffice, Abiword (for smaller document formats like RTF), Scribus (page layout) and Notepad ++. I have heard of some using more specialized programs for writers such as

I'm still rocking my Word 2000. Works well enough for me, since it has all the basics such as the spelling and grammar checker and thesaurus. Before that I used Wordpad, since I like to personally spell-check my work several times over instead of relying on a program to do it for me.
