With spray can paintbrushes,
they all write, they all say,
"I was here."
On walls, on street signs, on near-impossible places,
"I was here. I was here!"
And the world strolls indifferently by.
On gates, on sidewalks, on school desks,
"I was here! All of these places!"
With a bullet, with an overdose, with the act of maturing,
the world says, without even making eye contact,
"So?"

For such a short poem, it's very powerful, and its message is both clear and profound. On the surface, it might appear to be a funny poem about wannabe gangsters, but on a metaphorical level, the poem's description of the graffiti-artist "thug" applies equally to all of us -- especiall... (
