Sitting comfortably

Sitting comfortably

It's about my tea time, actually

Sitting comfortably, up to my chest
A pond that has no border:
An ocean without islands or continents.
Eternity fading past the light
Of the candle's flame; uncharted darkness.

Sitting comfortably, up to my chest
Each
Filling of the cup
Sound of the pouring
Sip of the tea
Whiff of the aroma
Inhalation of the incense
A ripple:
Born and fleeting.

Sitting comfortably, up to my chest
Letting the vibrations trail off.
For a moment
Acknowledged
Embraced
Absorbed
Channeled;
Felt
Forgotten
For a moment
Recalled in the next ripple.

Sitting comfortably, up to my chest
I am in momentary stillness.
I touch my lips to the liquid's surface
Sending ripples into eternity.

We are told …

That love conquers all, and is all the people of this world and the next need in order to live a long, fulfilling life. Whoever said that either is too ignorant to remember this story or was simply deprived of hearing it spoke in the low, husky voice of an elderly man beneath a lazy moon on a cold winter’s night.
