Shangri La

Shangri La

A sonnet for paradise

Follow me to shangri la
all sorrow, lay to rest.
Shining as a distant star
where god thought only emptiness.
Cast dark words to the swirling breeze
to rivers of flowing silk.
Under ancient, lost, forgotten trees
silence softens insults ilk.
A home of moss and lotus flower
floats on freedoms lightest air.
Sweetest sleep, here, does not sour
long dead hopes will find you there.

Follow me to Shangri la your troubled soul find rest
while your gone I’ll guard for you the dearest and the best.

I know it's missing the iambic pentameter which means it is not strictly a sonnet, however, in accordance with the recent work of Simon Armitage the sonnet style has been manipulated beyond Shakespearean bounds i.e breaking the iambic pentameter, I'm glad you enjoyed it despite this discrepancy.

Well-written, though this isn't really what a sonnet is. Still, nice style.

nice poem, however it isn't a sonnet. it's got the 14 lines but you're missing the 10 syllable part. But who cares its a nice poem without those silly rules!

I rather thought she now stood further away from her end of the counter. In her mind I was no doubt shedding ugly on her desk, she had to get further away. Sneaking a peek at my zits (I'm sure she did), she hands me my mail. The word international flashes in the air: I get international mail and your job is to hand it over. Thankyou. Make-up from overseas.
