snowfall; silence; slip away
currents, part one
Invisible currents are revealed in specks of white,
Lighting up in the incandescent glow of above me,
First bright but ever fading in the darkness,
Weakened by the freezing winds and swallowed up by shadows.
And just as I reach for that beautiful light,
It shrinks to a dull...
...blue...
...pulse...
Somewhere in the distance,
Like a candle underwater,
Still burning in defiance of all our minds can see.
More powerful than God,
And still unnoticed.
And in time, though I keep reaching,
It gives up and dies.
...but I keep reaching.
happy dreams of misery
currents, part two
Quickening air currents, cold stones in a sea of warmth;
Though faultless, still heartless,
Though fearless, still hopeless…
Playing with careless words that escape and never return,
While I hold my breath waiting for an echo.
Running my fingers along blue veins, beneath pale skin,
While she argues with herself inside herself;
Tears without meaning escape from tired eyes,
Regret returns, rebounds remiss, returns.
Dreams granted bring beside them shame,
Sadness brings relief from pain,
As the currents carry out the burdens
Of too many lonely years.
But it flows in one direction, decisively unstoppable,
From one heart to another and I selfishly accept the trade;
Justification after action, explanation before reaction,
Struggling with words in between.
something from nothing (and back again)
currents, part three
Currents ebb and flow
Across the surface underneath;
Foundations will erode and disappear.
Unified movements,
In perpetual repetition,
Unseen in twilight still,
But heard in echoes through your mind.
Rhythmic swells become a crashing wave
Pressed beneath the weight of heavy air;
Sand castles towered high
Are on the verge of collapse,
Waiting for a final wave to crush them.
Tides rise with every inward flow,
Gradual, unstoppable,
Yet hesitant, perhaps,
Retreating after each advance.
With finally restraints released
The tide comes forth once more,
And as we feel it wash across us,
Castles return to sand.
Just sand.
(And we try not to wonder why we built them.)
