Big Brother Sees

Watching every corner, watching every door...

Author's Commentary
Inspired by Orwell; about past, present, and future attempts of the government controlling their public. Enjoy, and understand to the fullest.
The mind police are going around
Better that I don’t make any noise
Seeing what I think
Reading what I say
But it’s time to stop pretending
Pretending I’m afraid

They search the dirty corridors
And they check the clean halls, too
Looking for the traitors
Finding all the plots
But now we have to stop hiding
Stop hiding from what’s not

They patrol the crowded slums and bars
All powerful to the naked eye
Killing who is wrong
Protecting who is right
But now the world is ready
Ready to stand and fight

Conformity is the enemy
Conformity is the enemy
Conformity is the enemy
Are you ready to stand and fight?

Big Bro is watching, you know
He sees your every move and thought
Attacking what’s on the left
Buying what’s on the right
But look out, right, that’s right
Because now it’s you we fight

Big Bro likes to kill, you know
He sends the soldiers down every street
Rooting out the rights
Persecuting the lefts
Left or right, right or left
You’ll be the enemy on any given night

#Big Brother is alive, you know#
#At least that’s what they told me#
#He’s smiling at the office#
#He’s cheery on the TV#
#And most important of what He means#
#Big Brother means that I’m independent and free#

#Right is the enemy#
#Left is the enemy#
#Right and left are the enemies#
#Are you ready to stand and fight?#

I liked the idea of this. It was an okay poem throughout, but what I liked was when you got to the end. For me, really, the last line is what pulled it all together.
I liked how the statement is repeated from earlier, but takes on a new meaning in the different context. I think that was w... (read more)

I rather thought she now stood further away from her end of the counter. In her mind I was no doubt shedding ugly on her desk, she had to get further away. Sneaking a peek at my zits (I'm sure she did), she hands me my mail. The word international flashes in the air: I get international mail and your job is to hand it over. Thankyou. Make-up from overseas.
