(c) Simon Cook 2008
Ardently I watch you,
with your palpable strength.
Like a monument you stand true,
as a stalwart deity.
You are eternal,
reaching out, you touch the sky,
your limbs like vines,
feeling the emotions on the wind;
hearing every spoken word,
yet keeping a profound silence,
Like an errant warrior,
you fight your own battles,
not knowing or caring about others,
their troubles merely a splash in the ocean,
with ripples you do not see.
You are ageless and poignant,
standing there with your knowing eye,
invisible to all but yourself,
like a face behind an opaque veil,
perhaps diffidently waiting to emerge?
And I wonder if you feel anguish?
or cry tears for the world?
A world that is changing,
before your very eyes,
you are helpless against this,
and you suffer,
as only you observe it all;
frustration is your only friend,
in your forlorn world,
that no one can understand.
Sometimes I try and see what you witness,
and feel the passionless passage of time;
my eager eyes attempting to perceive,
the mysteries that you see,
and I yearn to understand,
the pain and sadness,
the fear and horror,
that does not diminish,
and is as endless as time;
forever, eternal.
And then I somehow perceive,
the depth of your fear,
as I watch the world progress,
intent on some sordid civilization;
I see you are a prisoner,
to this ‘so called’ progress,
for when they come,
you have no choice but fall,
to join in the doom,
and become a subtle memory of hope.

you gave the trees a voice :-]

you see the soul of nature, you conveyed how the trees might feel so well that i almost want to go out and talk to one after reading this. It is an interesting piece, shows perspective most may not even consider, which makes it even stronger as a poem.
the language is very beautiful as wel... (
