  • What kind of writing can I post on Papertank?
    • You can submit nearly anything you'd like, provided the content is original. For more information, please consult our (Article Submission Guidelines Section).
Articles and Submission Process
  • How do I submit an article?
    • Click the "submit article" link on the upper right corner of the website to begin the submission process.
  • How often can I submit an article?
    • Currently, you may submit one article every three days. We limit this to reduce the clutter of large volumes of submissions.
  • What is a "shredded article"?
    • Shredded articles are articles that have been removed from the site, but still contains the votes, reviews, and comments associated with it. An article can be shredded for one of the following reasons:
      • It has received a negative score below the minimum threshold.
      • It violated terms in the Article Submission Policy
      • It was removed by the author.
  • Am I able to edit my articles after submitting them?
    • Once you submit your article, you may not apply any further edits. We do this to allow members to critique your submission on mechanics such as spelling and grammar.
  • Can I resubmit a revised article?
    • We currently allow authors to submit new versions of their article.
  • How do I get more people to read my articles?
    • There are a lot of different reasons why a reader would choose to read or not read your article, all boiling down to their own personal tastes. The best way to get more people to read and review your material is to simply tell people about it. Send it to your friends and family, talk about it in your favorite forum or social networking site or even your blog, whatever you can do to get more people to see it.
Modules
  • What are modules?
    • Modules are separate windows on Papertank that each serve a different function. They can be rearranged, minimized, added or removed. Any module can appear on any page depending on how you choose to set each page. Your setup for each page will be remembered for the next time you login.
  • How do I move modules?
    • When you hover your mouse over the title of a module, a "move" cursor will appear. To move the module, simply click and drag it to a special "snap area", where you may place it by letting go of the mouse button.
  • How do I add or remove modules?
    • To remove a module, click on the 'x' icon located on the upper-right corner of the module. To add a module, click the module menu on the top navigation bar and select a module.
  • How do I minimize and expand modules?
    • To minimize a module, click the '-' icon located on the upper-right corner of the module. To expand a module, click the icon again.
  • How many modules are there?
    • There is never a definite amount of modules as we will always be adding new modules every so often. If you have an idea for a module that you believe would be helpful in improving your site experience, please post your suggestion in the Suggestion Area forum.
User Score and Review Rank
  • What is my User Score?
    • The user score is a sum of the scores of a user's articles, excluding articles with a negative score.
  • What is my Review Rank?
    • The review rank is based on the number of article reviews a user has posted and is the determining factor of a user's maximum vote weight. The number is based on an exponential algorithm, meaning the number of reviews required for each level is greater than that of the previous one. Each time a user increase a rank, their vote weight increases by two points.
  • Does either my user score or review rank ever decrease?
    • If an article receives negative votes or a review is shredded, these values will decrease.
Account Information
  • What can I do as a member of the site?
    • There are many advantages of registering for an account. Members have the ability to post articles, reviews, comments, and participate in forum discussions. Members also have a greater vote value than non-registered users, and have the ability to increase it by achieving higher ranks. Another benefit of becoming a member is gaining access to additional modules and the ability to customize them.
  • How do I edit my profile?
    • Click the "Options" link in the header to bring up the profile options page.
  • How do I manage my articles?
    • Open the options page and click the "articles" tab. From here, you can modify an article's information or remove it from the site.
  • Can I have my account removed from the site?
    • Currently, we do not allow users to close their accounts.
Voting
  • How does voting work here?
    • Users have the choice of rating an article up or down, and the article will receive the score based on the type of user that votes (non-registered users have a value of 1, while registered users have a vote of 2). Registered members have the ability to post reviews, which allows a user to critique the article and adjust the value of their vote within the maximum value based on their review rank.
  • What is the null vote?
    • The null vote is the fist in between the two thumbs that allows you vote if you're opinion of the article is indifferent.
  • What if my article gets a negative score?
    • Negative scores aren't necessarily a bad thing. Most voters give articles a thumbs down because they believe the article could use improvement. In order to maintain a collection of quality content, if an article reaches the minimum negative threshold, it will be automatically shredded.
  • Why doesn't my vote weight apply to any of my votes?
    • A user's vote weight only applies to reviews.
  • What is the point of voting on reviews?
    • Voting on reviews helps keep our system fair and balanced. If you believe the review was too short or inaccurate, simply click "no". If a review receives a lot of unhelpful feedback, it will be shredded and will no longer count toward the score.
  • Why isn't anyone voting on my article?
    • There are many reason why your article may receive very few votes. Your title may not be appealing enough to draw in readers or your article isn't interesting enough to keep them reading all the way through. Your article may have been too long and scared away readers who tend to have a short attention span.
Reviews and Comments
  • What are reviews?
    • Reviews are a way for readers to provide constructive criticism to authors on specific articles. Users may submit reviews after they vote, and can give the article an additional score limited by their user rank.
  • What happens to my review if it was "shredded"?
    • Similar to articles, reviews may also be "shredded" on the site. Shredded reviews no longer count towards the article's score, and remove the ability for the author of the review to submit another on the same article.
  • Why was my review shredded?
    • Reviews are shredded when the "helpfulness" score of the review reaches a minimum low value.
  • What is the difference between reviews and comments?
    • Although both are great tools for providing feedback, the fundamental difference between them are simple: reviews are for extensive feedback, and comments are for short thoughts and discussion regarding the topic.
  • How frequently can I submit reviews?
    • You may submit up to ten reviews per day.

I rather thought she now stood further away from her end of the counter. In her mind I was no doubt shedding ugly on her desk, she had to get further away. Sneaking a peek at my zits (I'm sure she did), she hands me my mail. The word international flashes in the air: I get international mail and your job is to hand it over. Thankyou.
